Wanlockhead and Lowther Hill this morning. The snow has been coming and going over the past week. More snow still needed to run the tows.
Throw Rig still has a 600 metre-long, c-shaped snow patch, but more snow is needed to run the tow.
There are still some large snow patches on Lowther Hill despite the rain and heavy thaw of the past week. Snow showers are forecast for the weekend but more is needed to run the tows.
A few photos of the amazing conditions we enjoyed this week before the mild weather arrived.
A fantastic day on Lowther Hill today with plenty of sun and snow. Watch Lowther Hills Ski Club members Ross Dolder, Tim Mullens and Ed Forrest skiing the Throw Rig piste (710m - 585m). The weather is going to be mild and wet over the next days. We are not planning to run tows for the remainder of the week.
The snow came back to the villages giving us the opportunity to re-open the popular Nursery slope at Leadhills Golf Course.
The great conditions we had during mid-week were followed by a heavy thaw, but the snow fencing we installed a couple of weeks ago allowed us to open the weekend (video by Des Reid). New snow is expected next week, members will receive an update by email on Monday.
Today, enjoying the sunny powder on Lowther Hill. Tomorrow Sunday: strong winds expected, we have decided not to run the tows. We'll assess conditions on Monday and may consider opening during the week if volunteers are available.
Steady thaw in the South of Scotland, most of the snow has gone from the villages and Lowther Hill. Facilities closed, waiting for more snow to arrive. Here is a video of conditions at the Shortcleuch Gully on Sunday 8th before the thaw:
Our dedicated volunteers have kept the Leadhills nursery area open since Thursday last week. There is no more snow forecast for this week, so make the most of the current conditions while they last! Here is a video showing the fantastic conditions we enjoyed at the nursery area last Sunday:
Today we ran one of our mightly portable tows on Lowther Hill.
Fantastic weekend at the nursery area in Leadhills -and glorious weather on Sunday 18th- when for the first time this season we had to open a second ski tow.
Snow and strong winds forecast for the weekend. Still unclear whether we'll get enough snow to open the nursery slope on Sunday. Ski Club members will receive an update by email on Saturday night if we think we might be able to open on Sunday.
